They're split up (on most PSUs, not just the CM-SP) to allow people to use them on old motherboards where they only have 4-pin auxilliary power ports. If you're PSU doesnt have 2 6 pin connectors, you can use the provided 2x 4 pin molex to 1x 6 pin PCIe power connector as one of your additional power Or sometimes you can find the other one 8 pin cable splitted into two 4 Pin ATX/EPS 12V cables. I restarted the system and after a minute at the "Del" screen, I got a message on the screen that says: "BIOS is Updating... It boots fine with only one 4-pin connector plugged into the 8-pin EATX12V connector.
The nasty thing is, such folly can kill a board. Also, you would need way more than just 600W to power 2 GTX 480s + a standard pc.
